Late Sh. Vidya Sagar Dewan

(09 August 1947 - 19 March 2004)

He was a leading Indian industrialist, philanthropist and educationist. He established Dewan Rubber in 1972. The product mix included cycle tyres, tubes, reclaimed rubber, calcium carbonate etc. Under his leadership, USHA - the flagship tyre and tube brand of Dewan Rubbers was exported to many foreign countries and accounted for 20% market share on all India basis. He further started Dewan Sugars in 1973 at Moradabad. He subsequently launched Dewan Tyres in 1983 for manufacturing of tyres and tubes for scooters, motorcycles, 3-wheelers, trucks and tractors. In the same year he initiated Dewan Steels for manufacturing of cycle chains and galvanised sheets. As a true entrepreneur, he further incorporated Dewan Textiles and lastly Dewan IT by the name of NewTech Solutions. Following the footsteps of his father Late Sh. Daulat Ram Dewan who was a teacher by profession, he steered social pursuits under the aegis of Dewan Daulat Ram Charitable Trust by establishing co-educational Dewan Public Schools at Meerut and Hapur. He along with his wife Ms Mamta Dewan - a staunch socialist and promoter of human values established Dewan VS Group of Institutions at Meerut to provide world class higher education for budding managers, lawyers, hoteliers and technocrats at affordable cost.
